Is So Good
Psalm 116
16 O LORD, truly I am your servant;
I am your servant, the son of your
maidservant;
you have freed me from my chains.
Here is possibly one of the most
unique word-pictures in the history of humankind. David says
he is the LORD'S servant, the
son of HIS maidservant, then
goes on to say that HE has
freed David from chains!
How can that be? Servants
are not free. And I don't think we should be confused by
modern psychological terms. David lived in a time when
servants (read slaves) were bound by literal chains,
It may well be that he himself
had been bound by chains for a time in a literal sense.
There is another possibility. I have always considered David
to be the most Christian-like person from Old Testament
times. He knew the true heart of GOD.
David knew that his own heart
had been set free by the LORD.
He knew his sins were forgiven, he knew he could not earn
salvation, he knew that he was the servant of the LORD.
Willingly, that is. How
about you. Are you so grateful for all you have received
that you would be willing to be the servant of JESUS?
Fortunately for us, HE is kind
and just in HIS Lordship.
Trust HIM
enough today to allow your life and all its concerns to slip
gently away into the loving hands of JESUS.
When you are HIS servant, HE
is your Master and HE takes
your part in all things!
