Victory

Exodus
32:18
Moses replied: "It is not the sound of victory, it is not
the sound of defeat; it is the sound of singing that I hear."

In the context above, Moses had
just spent time alone with the LORD
on the mountain. He had received the Ten Commandments etched
into tablets of stone. He was returning from the glorious
meeting when he heard the sound of singing from the camp.
Not Victory, not defeat, just
singing. Actually, the people had melted the gold jewelry
they had and fashioned a golden calf idol to worship while Moses
was gone to meet with GOD.
In summary of the events:
-
Moses left the people to
speak with the LORD
-
The people turned
immediately to idolatry
-
The result was singing,
dancing, immorality and loss of focus
-
The LORD
wanted to destroy them for their unfaithfulness
-
They lost the great Victory
that had been handed to them
-
Moses interceded for them
This is not really different
than what we have seen over the last 2,000 years. Moses was
a foreshadowing of JESUS, who
came to be our SAVIOR, left to
prepare a place for us, and intercedes for us on a regular basis.
Why? Because we find it
so easy, when JESUS is not
right in front of us to turn to idols. Remember, an idol is
anything to which we give all or part of the worship, honor and
focus the LORD deserves from
us.
Take stock today and see where
your life is heading. Are you worshiping the true GOD
of your life, or are you dividing focus from HIM
to the things of this world which tend to idolatry.
It is so easy to repent and
turn to HIM, and we have JESUS
at the right hand of the FATHER
"ever making intercession for us!" And . . . .
